Multiracial Malaysia

Malaysia is a nation with people that conforms to many believes and customary. That alone makes Malaysia unique in its true sense. The peace and harmony that existed all along between the many races are currently in jeopardy and for that, we need to thank the politicians and the politically/religiously inclined NGOs. Please don't just blame this to the opposition or the current ruling government. All including the current government, the opposition and NGOs are to be blamed for this as they all played a part in this.
Race, as we all know in the context of Malaysia has a direct relationship to religion. So lets look at that in an open heart. There is no answer as to which religion is the true religion as every religion says it is true and the other is just well the other.

Based on my analogy this argument cannot be won and it would only create war as 1. the human ego would never allow us to give in to something we hold so dearly easily, 2. political movement that conforms to the mass believe would use it to remain in power and 3. a believe system cannot be altered unless a stronger argument against the current believe is put forward.

As a human we are strongly being indoctrinated into believing on some form of system that we call religion. Islam, Christianity, Hinduism and the many more alike are a form of believe system. Therefore this believe system cannot be easily altered unless a very strong argument against the current believe exists. However, if we look deeper into each religion, we can break up what religion say into two distinctive category.

The first is what religion say about God, particularly on how we approach God and what happens when we die. All our praying rituals, customary, the form of God and the name in which we use to call God falls in this category. The second is what religion say about living morally. What is being morally right from wrong. The thought of talk no evil, speak no evil and see no evil falls in this category.

So my point is, though all religion differs dramatically on the first category but somehow they concur each other vehemently on the second category. I practice Hinduism, and I am sure my friends whom are Christians or Muslims would not get angry with me, if I told them don't steal and harms others, but they would certainly be angry if I told them that going to Church or Mosque is wrong. Same thing would happen if they did the same to me.

Therefore I choose to respect the believe of other peoples religion on the first category above and not question it but dwell our relationship further to work and help each other on the basis of the second category.

For the sake of this nation I appeal to individuals with power to let it go. War and hatred among races is detrimental to everyone because Malaysia is where it is today not because of the doings of one person but the effort of the masses.

Floods In Malaysia

Flood is not something new to Malaysia. From my school days (late 80s onwards), every year end schools would be closed and news about flood sprung all over. The time frame is usually between November to December and slightly spilling over to early January.
So why after years of experience going through the flood situation that has become piratically a norm is getting from bad to worse? To add fuel to fire, the way the flood situation is handled in some states is nothing short of the lack of preparedness.
Yes times have changed significantly. I am sure many would agree on the fact that the weather pattern of the world is changing. Natural disasters are getting from bad to worse. The climate change is way different compared to what it was 10 years ago.
Now, what I have mentioned above is information that are already known to us. We know climates are changing, we can almost accurately predict when the next big rains going to come and we also know the area that are usually are prone to floods.
Despite all the above knowledge, we still have people getting stuck for days at home, delay in delivering aid to flood victims, relief centres of very poor facilities. The way some relieve centres are, as what I would liken to “kandang lembu” where victims are packed together. For the benefit of some who sits high up, talk but no action, these victims are humans who had voted you in….
I agree with one of the suggestion by Tun Mahathir in his blog (http://chedet.cc/?p=1169#comment-116961), that we need to re-visit the way we build our buildings. Architectural designs should look into making building more flood proof. But you and I know that construction companies are there to make money. So if we want to have buildings with flood proof made, local laws and regulations need to be changed to force the design of these flood proof building.
On top of that, we should also have strong enforcement. What good is a fancy law with no enforcement? We have department of irrigation, and yet why was Sungai Kajang allowed to be polluted to the extend where it caused flash floods in Kajang? What die the authorities do? Basically they say what we all already know. They send in a team to tell us that the flood occurred very fast because the rivers were blocked? By what? mostly logs and debris? Looking back, one question looms, which Idiot approved the logging company to use the river without consulting department of irrigation to asses the impact of such activity?
To my utter surprise what did politicians comment on papers? Another round of sweet talk and blame game. Ohh the people at fault for polluting the river. Yes, I agree that people especially the citizens of Kajang are at fault when it comes to polluting the rive. But who don't know this? I dont think I voted the wakil Rakyat to tell me what I already know. Don’t we have municipal council, the police, the ministry of environment, town planning unit and God know how many more departments to ensure all this don’t happen in the first place?
It has become sickening and boring to hear politicians giving press conference talking rubbish and yet another year goes by and we are in more worse condition than we were. I would like to see the time where politicians stop talking but start walking. Take action. Make sure the related authorities and enforcement units do what they are suppose to do. Action speaks louder than words can. Readers please note, I mentioned politicians. So it is not related to a political party. It is directed to whomever were elected to represent the Rakyat for the particular area.
A final thought……did the Rakyat made a mistake choosing the wrong wakil rakyat? or did we chose the right wakil Rakyat but the current system does not allow him/her to perform his duties effectively??
May God be with us all....

Life as a middle class Citizen in Malaysia

Malaysia..the land that brings many exciting experience, be it nature, shopping or culture one would never be short of being astonished by the synergy where it all comes together. The transformation that this country went through from agricultural to industrialisation saw many giant MNCs marking its presents here since the 80s and all throughout the 90s.

Being an 80s baby my self, I was never short of experiencing the life and the growth Malaysia went through. Back then, life was just laid back. Cost of living was low where you get Nasi Lemak for RM0.60 with enough rice for 2 person to eat. Goreng pisang was just RM0.20. My family and I lived a happy life with my mom choosing to work because she was bored at home as oppose to now where both spouses working is more of a necessity.

Nobody paid much attention to what the government was doing be it the right thing or the wrong thing. Racism was close to nil back then. In schools I had friends from different racial background where we only knew each other by name regardless of which race or ethnicity. Living in one of the largest housing estates established in Seremban, neighbours were friends. I remember the time where we used to visit each other during festivities and nobody questioned the integrity of each other. It was as if there was an unwritten rule that every race knows about the other and takes responsibility to ensure no offences are made.

Things have changed now. Cost of living is becoming from bad to worse. More and more of irresponsible government spending is brought to light. More and more racial flags were waved. Why? what happened to the Malaysia that I once knew? Name calling such as "pendatang" from senior government ministers and community leaders are more rampant. Telling the people to get out of the country if they don't like the current government is yet another call that was uttered lately. It all boils down to on thing, which I would strongly advocate and that is, the people in general are getting smarter but he government and the politicians alike are getting stupider as time goes by.

Therefore the ultimate question the looms in me...did we really achieved independence? What was difference to the concept of divide and rule that were employed by the British then followed by the communist to the the present government's management style?

To my utter surprise, there are still many among the Rakyat who lack the brain power to differentiate a politician who is sincere and who is there to make quick bucks. Lies after lies, threatening along the racial lines are all blatant acts of irresponsible person. How can such person vow to protect the religion when the motive was wrong to begin with? And yet many fall for it and act along this line forgetting that end of the day religion, race and customary is not going to put food on your plate.

It is job opportunity, education revamp, economic revamp and responsible government that makes this whole thing happen. Are there yet to accept political change? I believe we are not ready but change is inevitable. It is going to be a bumpy ride that hopefully takes its natural cause.

Religion is personal. Keep it to yourself. Your believe is yours to enjoy. The fact is Malaysia is multiracial country. Whether we like it or not knowing each other is compulsory to live along each other. This country will loose if we as responsible citizen allow these politicians, NGOs or even individual who keep harbouring about racial and religious right to rule. 50 years of independence will go down the drain. Many smart and intelligent people will leave the country. 50 years of independence, we are still consumers of technology. When will we create technology? when will we develop knowledge for others to follow? when will we be known in sports? Governing along the racial line will lead this country to doom.

Let us hope the year 2014 will see a move towards a changing society that unite against government or ministers or officials that shows idiotic behaviour. At the end of the day, they drive off in a merc or bmw or owns a bungalow. You and I don't. So..whose well being are we fighting for? Did the Allah issue, whoever won the battle resolve your economic standings? Did the commotion about qorban in school vicinity get you a pay rise? So in the end what are we fighting for? Why are we the everyday rakyat are at logger heads for the benefit of the politicians?

May God be with us all...
